Dry Mud Tubes Along Your Home's Foundation Are A Sign Of One Major Pest Problem

termites in house

While you may want to wipe these mud tubes away, if termites are nesting in your home's wood, they'll be back to rebuild them. These tubes offer protection from predators while termites move from place to place to forage for food. There are various ways to get rid of termites, but this often requires a proper inspection to make sure termites are, in fact, the problem inside your home. For example, when hiring professional pest control companies, some use IPM or Integrated Pest Management.

Tips for Getting Rid of Termites

MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) - Attorney Henry R. Seawell IV with the Seawell Firm, LLC sat down with FOX10′s Lenise Ligon to talk about the need for homeowners in our area to have termite bonds. Landscape was an integral part of the overall design and is intended to be an extension of the architecture. We worked closely with a landscape designer to communicate the architectural intent and devise planting strategies that complement the significant gestures.

How Much Does a Pest Inspection Cost?

Termites aren't known to pose any significant health risk to humans. However, they can cause extensive damage to buildings and paper-based objects within them.

Signs You Might Have a Termite Infestation

Because of their scope, termite infestations can be difficult to fully eradicate. If the infestation is not confined to just one area, it’s in a homeowner’s best interest to call in a professional exterminator to handle it. They may also be able to locate additional colonies in locations that are not obvious, saving homeowners the expense of future repairs. While termite control costs may seem high at first, the cost of termite damage repair down the road is likely to be much more significant. The best termite control companies (like Terminix or Ehrlich) also offer guarantees that they will return and apply additional treatments if the problem persists.

You can remove the top of a mud tube and check it out every day to see if you spot any termites. If you suspect a termite infestation, it’s crucial to contact a pest control professional immediately. A professional can accurately assess the situation and implement the appropriate treatment to eliminate termites and prevent further damage.

After that, floors and walls can give way completely due to the damage to their structural integrity. Like all termites, dampwood termites consume the cellulose found in wood and from this, they also build their homes. They are larger than the two varieties mentioned below, although across the U.S. today, they are not as common. They are mostly found along the Pacific Coast because of the heavy rainfall and abundance of wood. Knowing what attracts termites and where they nest can help homeowners make their homes less hospitable to these pests. Termites feast on materials such as wood that are rich in cellulose, and many varieties tunnel through soil. As a rule of thumb, any parts of the home where wood meets the ground can be viewed as potential entry points for termites. Homeowners who keep wood piles in their yards will want to avoid stacking them against the side of the home.

Diatomaceous earth (DE) is the powder form of diatom fossils, which are tiny, naturally occurring organisms. While diatomaceous earth appears to be a consistency that’s similar to cornstarch or flour, to termites the substance is sharp and will penetrate their outer shells on contact. Once termites lose this protective outer layer, the DE will dehydrate the insects in a matter of hours. Sprinkling the powder around the home wherever there are signs of termites can go a long way toward wiping out a colony. While nontoxic to humans, DE can be mildly irritating to the skin, eyes, and lungs, so it’s a good idea to wear a mask, gloves, and eye protection when handling the powder.

The damage caused by flying ants is also not nearly as destructive as that of termites. Termites are notorious for eating wood, causing it to become hollow and warped. Sometimes termite colonies can go unnoticed for months or even years before their presence is discovered by homeowners.

A generous office space to work from home was also part of the clients’ brief. Both these forms are distinct but in dialogue with each other, simultaneously separate and shared. Their siting and shape define a funneled procession of entry from street that opens up to a gradual revealing of courtyard, house, and river. 'A termite swarm in your home is quite an alarming event as there can be thousands of insects emerging at once,' says James Agardy, ACE, technical and training manager for Viking Pest Control.

Termites are particularly problematic because the longer they live in a home, the more extensive the damage. Termites are typically brown or black and have four wings that are roughly the same size. They measure about ¼ to ½ inch in length and tend to have short, slightly curved antennae.

Remember, prevention is key to avoiding termite infestations, so regular maintenance and vigilance are important for keeping your home termite-free. You should also try to pinpoint what is alluring the flying termites to your home. Since they are attracted to moisture and wood, this may be a good starting point for your investigations, like when beginning to get rid of carpenter ants. If you notice them frequenting certain areas of your home, this should give you a good indication of the source of their interest in your home. Ignoring the early signs of termites in drywall can cause significant damage down the road.

Henry Seawell IV discusses termite bonds and legal recourses if infestation occurs

termites in house

Although you may not be able to depend on sight for many clues, there are other ways to check for termites. If you suspect you have an infestation, it’s wise to call in a professional exterminator to determine the scope of the problem and the best treatment. By using something to hit the wood of the house, like the back-end of a tool, homeowners can identify different sounds the wood produces, which can speak to its damage.

Criminal Background Check

Termites need to live in dark, damp environments where they're not exposed to air. There are also soldier termites with large heads and jaws that protect the workers and defend the colony. As adults, they are wingless, but they start their life cycle with wings so they can swarm to form a new colony.

STEP 4: Spray boric acid on wood, in the garden, and on any spots where there’s an infestation.

'The winged termites are often called swarmers, and this is one of the ways a termite colony reproduces. During the spring, mature termite colonies will release winged reproductive we call alates, commonly known as swarmers. These alates will emerge, pair off to mate, and attempt to establish a new colony.

How do I get rid of termites in my house?

This simple method requires taking two wet pieces of cardboard and stacking them on top of one another. The cellulose in the cardboard will attract the termites and they’ll get stuck within the pieces. This, however, is not an efficient method, as it may not kill all the termites or the colony. Termites will also begin to catch on and avoid the trap if dead termites are left in place for too long. Setting up preventative measures reduces the appeal of the home and protects the property. This is why termite damage is hard to recognize before it’s too late.

Should I buy a house with beam damage from insects?

You will seldom see a termite queen since they stay in the nests to lay eggs and raise the young. Drywood termites inhabit the southern half of the United States, across the country from North Carolina to southern California. They, unlike dampwood termites, prefer dried-out wooden structures, like dead trees. However, they find entry points into places in your home like the attic, which is guaranteed to be a smorgasbord of dried out wood for them.

This termite species is typically between 1/2 and 5/8 of an inch long. As their name suggests, dampwood termites infest wood with high moisture content, such as dead trees or logs, and don’t usually infest structures because of their need for excessive moisture. However, it is important to avoid attracting them as they can cause serious property damage if they make themselves at home.

Termites are known as “silent destroyers” because of their ability to chew through wood, flooring and even wallpaper undetected for years—damage that isn’t covered by most homeowners insurance policies. Terminix has been battling termites for 95 years and offers advanced solutions. When it comes to nationwide pest control providers, we recommend Terminix and Orkin.

How Much Does a Termite Inspection Cost?

If you think termites may be within your walls, gently tap on the flat surface. If this reveals a hollow sound, there is a good chance that termites have eaten away at the wood framing inside. Compare the sounds of a few different walls to be sure the hollow noise is unique.

Termites cannot destroy these foundations, but they can slip through a space that’s even as narrow as a few pieces of cardstock paper. Therefore, they can still access the wood in your home from the bottom up, especially subterranean termites. Certain factors increase the possibility for in-house termite infestations, including high levels of moisture, the availability of wood, and protection from the elements and avoidance of predators. Like most insects that find their way inside, termites look for the easiest possible entryway—which is often around window and door seals. If those door and window frames also serve as good food, then the termites may set up shop there for a while. As a result, the wood around the windows and doors may appear to be rotting or warping from the termite damage.

Unfortunately, spotting a termite infestation not as easy as seeing a termite skittering down your wood grain. Start by checking your attic, all of your home’s cracks and joints, and fuse boxes for the following signs identified by the University of Kentucky. Many homeowners discover they have a termite problem when they see a stream of swarmers emerging by the hundreds from a tiny crevice and flying off to form a new colony.

They often find entry points through cracks, utility conduits, or wood-based elements in your home’s structure. This is one of the most popular DIY termite treatment methods out there, and it’s used for all sorts of insect infestations. Boric acid is a toxin in the form of a white powder that you can purchase in any supermarket or hardware store. When it comes to termites, it’s generally best to skip the DIY methods and call in the professionals. On average, it can cost anywhere from $200 to $900 to hire a termite exterminator—although it could be upwards of $6,000 for a severe infestation. Left untreated, however, you could have even bigger problems on your hands if the termites affect the structural integrity of your home.

When you call a professional, they will use a liquid treatment or bait plan. The liquid treatment is the most effective and is fast-acting, and works to prevent termites from passing by the barrier the exterminator sprays around your home. Shaw gave us some specific insight into this treatment and how it works. Most of the time, you don’t have to see the actual termites to know whether or not your home is crawling with a colony. But if you start to see several little creatures flying around your home, or a set of discarded wings, it’s important not to distinguish a termite from an ant.

Some of the most common culprits are windows and doors, but anywhere that pipes or ductwork are routed outside will also need to be checked. Subterranean and dampwood termites love moisture, so repairing leaks in the home’s plumbing or roof will make it less attractive to these varieties. Lastly, for new builds or repairs, choosing materials like termite-resistant wood can stop an infestation before it begins. Termite prevention costs are lower than the cost of extermination and can save homeowners a major headache down the road. Professional termite control specialists can also provide additional suggestions for how to prevent termites.

If this wood is part of a structure that opens and closes (like a window), the warping can make it hard to move—especially if it’s been a while since it was last used. The longer the wood remains undisturbed, the more diligent termites can be with their damage. These microscopic, segmented roundworms are natural parasites to many garden pests—including termites. Beneficial nematodes burrow into their host and release a symbiotic gut bacteria that poisons the termite’s blood, killing them within a matter of days. Apply a mixture of nematodes, potting soil, and cold water to the infested areas of your lawn and garden.

Secondly, all permanent structures must be connected to water, sewer, and electricity utilities. Finally, all permanent structures must be properly permitted by the local authorities. The median price of a single-family California home in August was about $828,000, compared with the national median of roughly $360,000 in July. But living space has greatly tightened, and housing has become impossibly pricey for too many middle-class families and young couples who are being priced out of California.

Often it is wise to apply the Rule when a controversial guest speaker is invited (such as a politician), in return for them speaking candidly. Under the Chatham House Rule, anyone who comes to a meeting is free to use information from the discussion, but is not allowed to reveal who made any particular comment. The rule is a system for holding debates and discussion panels on controversial topics, named after the London headquarters of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, where the rule originated in June 1927. It was new rules governing NIL, passed back in 2021, that initially spurred Bush to begin lobbying publicly for his trophy’s return.

The Chatham House Rule is used worldwide to facilitate both free speech and importantly, confidentiality at meetings. To use the Chatham House Rule, you don’t need to be in the Chatham House (Headquarters of the Royal Institute of International Affairs), where the rule originated from. One of those winners, Matt Leinart, wasn’t sure he’d ever see the 2005 trophy returned to his superstar teammate. But that tone changed abruptly on Wednesday as the trust announced it was officially reinstating Bush, a decision the organization said was spurred by the upheaval in the college sports landscape. Reggie Bush, after years spent fighting to retake his place among college football’s most prestigious fraternity, is finally getting his Heisman Trophy back. Rules and regulations for tiny houses in California

If you're really set on owning the tiniest house possible, you may go even smaller by building what's known as an "accessory dwelling unit" (ADU). So, if you're considering switching to a tiny house, know that it is possible to do so permanently in California. Just be sure to research and prepare for the challenges of living in such a small space. If you get approved for a special use permit, you will likely be required to follow certain restrictions, such as maintaining a minimum lot size or setting your tiny home back a certain distance from the property line. SB 9, dubbed the “duplex bill,” would offer homeowners new options to build additional housing on their lots, regardless of whether they’re currently zoned for single-family only. They could add a granny flat, convert the house into a duplex or erect a triplex or fourplex.

Many localities are supportive of tiny homes, but there are some that have enacted moratoriums or bans on them. Whether or not you have to pay property taxes for your tiny house in California depends on where you place your home. If you own the land where your tiny house is parked, you will have to pay property taxes on that land.

Bush, who was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2023, would still have to fight a bit longer to see his trophy returned. Last August, Bush took his most substantive step toward that end by suing the NCAA for its claim that he accepted “pay for play” while at USC. For a decade, the university was left unable to even acknowledge the existence of one of its foremost football legends. The NCAA finally loosened its rules on disassociation bans, allowing Bush to officially be welcomed back to campus in June 2020. Few players, if any, in the storied history of college football have managed to captivate the sport quite like Bush.

Suddenly there are more cars parked on the street, more little kids screaming and more dogs leaving gifts on my lawn. The word is out that major land zoning bills signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom don’t amount to much because they were so watered down by compromising legislators.

Thus, courts throughout the state continue to apply a doctrine born in the 1800s to the modern day realities of state versus local government, with varying results. Charter cities and counties should consult legal counsel to evaluate the applicability of the home rule doctrine to any particular state law or regulation that appears to address what may be a purely municipal matter. This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. Under Article XI, Sections 4 and 5 of the California Constitution, charter cities and counties have exclusive authority to regulate and determine their own municipal affairs, free from intrusion by the state.

While at Hastings, Lisa served as an Equal Justice America fellow and received a grant to work on community economic development issues for the City of Detroit. Lisa earned her Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Government from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and soon after that worked at a bi-weekly political magazine in Washington, D.C. A significant part of Lisa’s practice involves counseling clients on the meet and confer process and FLSA issues.

Since Popper, numerous California courts have taken up the issue of whether wages and salaries paid by charter cities and counties to their employees constitute a municipal affair. The origins of the home rule doctrine lie in the creation of the state of California itself. That is, when the original California Constitution was ratified in 1849, many municipalities within the state had operated autonomously for decades using their own laws, government structures, and tax systems. In the face of the new power emanating from Sacramento, many established municipalities (such as Los Angeles or San Francisco) were skeptical of the state legislature and favored local autonomy. Read on to discover everything there is to know about tiny living in California. California has a number of resources available for those interested in living in a tiny home. However, the rules and regulations for tiny homes vary from community to community. There are a few things to keep in mind if you're considering building or living in a tiny home in California.

Origins and Applications of the Home Rule Doctrine

The Continuity Forum uses the Chatham House rule at many of our meetings and particularly, our debates. The Chatham House Rule operates primarily on trust, without any legal ground to it. Therefore make sure participants understand the seriousness of it, to reduce the chance that the rule is breached. Once the Chatham House Rule is invoked, it’s binding to all participants. That makes it different from a simple meeting ground rule, which often is used more like a recommendation than a strict rule.

Zoning regulations will vary depending on the city or county where you plan to build your tiny house. You need to go through your local ordinances for an exact figure, but generally, a minimum interior square footage of 100 square feet is enough. We need to cozy up in the larger cities near jobs and public transportation. Sometimes, a business meeting, or a particular section of it, may be conducted under the Chatham House Rule. It implies that the members of the meeting can use the information shared (to some extent).

In government, Pitt stood for parliamentary reform to prevent bribery; reform to diminish the influence of the monarchy; he backed reduction of the national debt; and he worked towards free trade. The organisation applying the rule can take disciplinary action against one of its members who breaks the Rule. The Rule depends for its success on being seen as morally binding although the Continuity Forum will not hesitate to act on any breaches. While primarily an Honour Rule it should be clearly understood that failure to follow the rule within the confines of Continuity Forum Meetings WILL result in the exclusion of the offending party from all subsequent meetings. It should be noted when any Continuity Forum meeting, event, or debate (or part thereof) is held under the Chatham House Rule, participants are free to use the information or opinions disclosed to them, subject to two conditions.

Parking spots on farms or in tiny house communities are another option. These spaces typically have hookups for water and electricity, which can be convenient. Private parking may be an option if you have a friend or family member with extra space on their property. Just be sure to get permission from the property owner before parking your tiny home on their land. Sheds or other types of small buildings that are not connected to utilities can only be used as accessory structures and cannot be the primary residence on a property. Tiny houses are becoming increasingly popular in California as more people look to downsize their living situations.

The Institute is otherwise known as 'Chatham House',  which refers to its 18th century premises in the heart of London. The Chatham House building was home to three British Prime Ministers including William Pitt the Elder, Earl of Chatham (Prime Minister from ). When the Institute was established in 1920, it acquired Chatham House as a gift in 1923, and it created the 'Chatham House Rule' in 1927. Lisa represents public agencies throughout the state as a negotiator, litigator, and trusted advisor in all matters pertaining to labor and employment law. She has extensive experience in Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and wage and hour compliance, labor relations, collective bargaining, MOU audits, PERB practice, and public employee disciplinary matters. She also represents independent schools and non-profits in wage and hour matters.

Can you permanently live in a tiny house in California?

However, not all counties in the state are equally welcoming to these smaller dwellings. Many RV parks and campgrounds also allow tiny homes on their property. However, it is important to do your research before choosing a location for your tiny home. “Local government has less control under these bills,” says Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, a former leader of the state Senate. As a legislator, Steinberg pushed through some of the earliest legislation that attempted to incentivize more urban housing near public transportation.

I recently took part in an event which the organizers described as happening under the Chatham House Rule. After talking to many of the participants, I realized we were uncertain exactly what this meant. We assumed the rule implied confidentiality – but we disagreed on how much.

First, all permanent structures must be built to code and must meet all local building ordinances. ADUs are typically much smaller than standard homes; you can build them on a property with a primary dwelling. However, there are strict rules and regulations governing the construction of ADUs, so be sure to do your research before you start building.

So be sure to check with your local authorities before you build or move into a tiny home in California. If you're looking to buy a brand new tiny house, explore some high-quality options on our website. In addition, your tiny home must be registered with the state, and you must have valid vehicle registration and license plate. You'll also need to pay property taxes on your tiny home, just like any other home.

However in some meetings the AIIA uses the Chatham House Rule to encourage openness and sharing of information. If a meeting is under Chatham House Rule this will be mentioned either in the publicity for or at the beginning of the event. More often than not, it is used to set an illusion of worth instead of creating a safe space for sensitive topics. Some aspects of the rule make it ambiguous, especially regarding sharing information. Meeting members often misuse it to keep useful information from being publicised. Due to technical advances, it has become unrealistic to keep anything confidential.

The Royal Institute of International Affairs, commonly known as Chatham House, is a British think tank based in London, England. Its stated mission is "to help governments and societies build a sustainably secure, prosperous, and just world". At a news conference announcing his lawsuit, Bush said he dreamed of coming back to the L.A. Coliseum and running out of the tunnel to see his No. 5 jersey hanging at the peristyle end of the stadium. Three years later, the Heisman Trust pointed to the same changes to college athletics as the reason for its about-face on Bush.

Fruit Flies: How to Get Rid of Fruit Flies & Fruit Fly Infestations The Old Farmer's Almanac

how to get rid of fruit flies in house

The fastest way to get rid of fruit flies is to call your local pest control company. If this isn’t an option, remove or seal away produce and garbage and set up one of the DIY fruit fly traps listed above. This is why it’s a good idea to keep your trash cans and compost outside or in the garage, if possible. It would be nice if you could banish fruit flies in just a few minutes, but unfortunately, it will take longer than that to eliminate an infestation.

Try not to overbuy fresh produce that's in danger of languishing in your kitchen. It's the perfect spot for fruit flies to lay their eggs (and for their larvae to feast on). Tossing fruit-fly covered items in the indoor trash just allows them to reproduce in your garbage can instead.

how to get rid of fruit flies in house

Get rid of a fruit fly infestation by changing your home habits and creating or buying fruit fly traps. Eradicate your current infestation and remove any food and breeding grounds for fruit flies from your kitchen counters, trash, and drains. Fruit flies are tiny insects that flock to ripening and rotten fruits and vegetables, both as food sources and places to lay eggs. Sometimes it seems like these tiny pests are everywhere, hovering around garbage disposals, sink drains, and fruit bowls, and that’s largely because they reproduce so quickly. Overripe fruit, rotting food, and fermentation can all cause a fruit fly infestation.

Eliminate potential breeding grounds

“For this problem, you can pour hot water down your drain, then cover it and fill it with water as if you were going to wash dishes. Leave the water in the sink overnight to kill the flies by depriving them of oxygen,” she says. Mix equal parts balsamic vinegar and warm water in a glass jar and add a drop of dishwashing liquid. One minute your kitchen is fine and the next, it is overrun with fruit flies. Venus flytraps and other predator plants may not completely solve your housefly problem, but they’ll help you keep flies in check.

That’s because they’re looking for somewhere suitable to lay eggs. Fruit flies are a common problem in many households, especially in summer. Contrary to what their name suggests, they aren't just attracted to overripe fruit – they're also lured by vegetable scraps, too. They can multiply incredibly fast and are all the more frequent nowadays due to the arrival of compost bins in kitchens. Small pieces of old food can end up inside a sink drain, on the outside of a garbage can, or at the bottom of a fruit bowl, so be sure to examine these spots.

The life cycle of fruit flies is also incredibly quick, and adult fruit flies can lay up to 500 eggs at a time. If you give fruit flies the chance to stick around, these eggs will ultimately hatch, and the cycle will continue in your home. If you’re convinced that all washing up liquids are created equal, think again. This hypoallergenic option lifts dried food off effortlessly and removes fatty residue, plus it will leave you with lovely soft hands. Fruit flies have a life cycle of a week or less, so once the breeding sites are removed, flies will disappear relatively quickly.

Signs You Have a Fruit Fly Infestation

When the flies can not see in the dark, they will find the only light source in the room will be a candle. Those who might not get burned will fall into the water and die. The fruitflies cannot resist the smell of vinegar and will eventually come to taste it. As soon as the flies touch the surface of the liquid, they won’t be able to hold themselves and drown dead in the solution.

I Tried This Very Simple Tip To Prevent Fruit Flies–And It Really Works.

But this simple trick should see the number of fruit flies swarming around your kitchen drop dramatically – with very little effort. If the fruit flies return after your house has been treated, the company may treat your home again for a free or reduced rate. Additionally, if you don’t take measures to eliminate their food sources, they may continue to breed, and you’ll have a recurring problem.

Don't leave out any cups of water or other liquids either. You want to remove any potential breeding areas, and that can include dirty dishes. Fruit flies are probably some of the most annoying unwanted household pests. They always seem to be around too, no matter the time of year or how clean your home is. They get their name from their obsession with over-ripening or rotting fruit. When they’re not hovering around your fruit bowl, you’ll find them in and around garbage cans.

WE ALL love summer - but one aspect we all hate is bugs and flies swarming the home. If you do need or want to use insecticide, pyrethrin-based insecticides are most common for indoor fly infestations. Be sure that you buy an insecticide specifically for indoor use, ventilate the area well, and follow the directions exactly. When a fly gets in the plant’s trap, it closes around the fly. It then secretes digestive fluid to dissolve the insect’s soft insides. It breaks down the insect over 5 to 12 days, then spits out the exoskeleton.

“If you have a green thumb,” she says, “bring these fragrant plants into a container garden inside your kitchen.” You’ll tackle your uninvited houseguests and score ingredients for your cooking too. Fruit flies tend to stick around for as long as there are food sources nearby, so like many pests, they’re not likely to go away unless you completely eliminate all of their food. Additionally, after mating, female fruit flies inject batches of eggs into fresh fruit. After mixing your solution, place the container wherever the fruit flies congregate.

Finally, switch off all the lights, as this method will only work in darkness. By keeping your house clean — especially free from food waste — you can help prevent a housefly infestation. Many natural and other fly repellents can be used outside to keep flies away from your house. You can try planting herbs and flowers such as basil or marigolds around the house, or even plant a few Venus flytraps.

Signs of a fruit fly infestation are the presence of adult fruit flies and their larvae, the latter of which can be mistaken for dirt and are hard to identify. The fruit fly, or Drosophila melanogaster, is a species of house fly. The same rotten or ripe fruit they live off of also serves as a place they lay their eggs. Yes, fruit flies will happily lay their eggs on your fruits and vegetables - and when they do this, they bury themselves into the core of the fresh produce.

Also known as sink flies, sewer gnats or moth flies, these non-biting gnats are light grey or tan, are around 1.5-5mm long, and their wings are feathery-looking. Fruit flies are opportunists and will sniff out any chance to find a suitable feeding (and breeding) ground to thrive in. Are you irritated by an infestation of those pesky flies in your kitchen?

When you have a large housefly infestation, insecticides can be effective because they work quickly. However, they’re not effective in the long term, because flies have short life cycles and will develop resistance. Additionally, the effect of the insecticide goes away quickly. If you keep a fruit bowl on your bench in humid conditions, it will speed up the fruit ripening process making it the perfect paradise for these fruit flies to breed in. So, keep on top of the cleanliness in your kitchen, and make sure you’re removing rotten food (whether that’s on your kitchen counters or in your bins) as soon as possible.
